The proposed study explores the problems associated with health and work place environment in informal sector of chikan industry of Lucknow. The study reveals the position of females working in modern chikan industry of Lucknow in context to occupational hazards and working atmosphere. Cornell Medical Index (CMI) Health Questionnaire is used for collecting data regarding physiological aspects and participative observation method is used for collecting facts regarding work place environment by studying ground-level reality from local persons and respondents. Forty items related to 9 health threats selected from 195 items of CMI as well as Working Place Environment, Physiological Distress, Sexual Harassment and Monetary (Financial) Aspects were selected for studying work place environment. A total of 527 respondents were selected for understudy in order to draw conclusions irrespective to health-related facts as well as work place environment. The study is highly original and innovative especially as no such study has been undertaken in chikan industry before. The methodology used is very adequate and specially articulated.
