Our world is a world which is in constant strife. Our greed for power and competition has bred hatred and bigotry in the name of religion, caste, creed and race. It is high time that we take responsibility of our recklessness and mend our ways. It we want that life on Earth continues to flourish then we need to bring about a paradigm shift in our attitudes through introspection and by looking up to great leaders. With this view, I have chosen to discuss three great leaders from the Western canon, viz. St. Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther King, Junior and Ralph Waldo Emerson, who being representatives of kindness and hope can show the way to the ever groping mankind.
