Abstract

Education helps in raising awareness and builds the capacity of communities to elaborate a vision and participate in the augmentation of sustainable development not only in development process but also in the attainment of sustainable attitudes. We should make our universities a truly empowering force, especially for the youth of the country to take up leadership roles in managing the hazards of global climate change to the advantage of the nation. Universities train and educate people and also participate in governance at the national and regional level. Universities are powerhouses of the future growth of more sophisticated knowledge along with the ability to apply the same to ground situations. It has been a common practice that whenever there arises any crisis anywhere the society approaches the institutions of higher education preferably universities and then other higher institutions of research for finding out solutions to them. This research paper focuses on the environmental education and role of universities for a sustainable development. This research paper is based on secondary information.
