Now, we are living in the ‘Knowledge Society’. Knowledge is a strategic resource that resides in human brain, corporate culture and also in different forms of knowledge medium like print and non-print. Libraries and Information Resource Centres are the storehouses of knowledge. Libraries and Information Resource Centres are consisting of printed documents (like books, journals, manuscripts, theses, reports, magazines, newspapers and other non-book materials) and electronic documents (like e-books, e-journals, e-thesis and e-newspapers). These are the primary information resources of libraries and information centres. These information resources have no value until it is used and applied properly. These resources of libraries and information centres should be utilised by the clienteles.
Different types of bibliometric studies are very helpful for librarians and information professionals for the proper use of information resources of the libraries and information centres. Information processing and retrieval system of libraries and information centres can be easy and quick through the application of proper and adequate bibliometric techniques. Information retrieval and dissemination can be done smoothly through the implementation of different types of bibliometric techniques. Acquisition, technical processing work, circulation system and all types of information processing and retrieval work of libraries and information centres can also be done successfully through the application of bibliometric techniques. Library and Information Science (LIS) is a growing subject and it is growing day by day for its interdisciplinary characteristics and the nature of sophistication. ‘IASLIC Bulletin’ is published by the Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres (IASLIC), which is a unique platform for the librarians and information professionals of our country. Since inception of this association in the year 1955and‘IASLICBulletin'startedits journeyinthe year1956anditis continuingtillnow. Itis a prestigious journal in the field of LIS.
‘IASLIC Bulletin’ is playing an important role in the dissemination of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of LIS. Itis a journal of international reputation. The ISSN of this journal is 0018-8441. This article is a bibliometric study of the ‘IASLICBulletin'and this bibliometric studycovers the 84 issues of the journal [i.e. from Vol.41 (1996) to Vol. 61 (2016)]. The article examines the contributions from different point of views. The tabular analysis find out the volume-wise distribution of contributions, authorship pattern of contributions, gender-wise distribution of contributions, citation-wise distribution of contributions, types of publications cited, distribution of contributions on different micro-subjects of LIS clearly and vividly. It gives an idea about the journal by the way of bibliometric analysis in a pinpointed manner. The article would be helpful for the research scholars, students and teachers in the field of LIS especially for the scholars in the field of Bibliometrics/Scientometrics/Informetrics, etc.
