Environment Concerns in the Ancient Indian Literature

Ancient Indian literature enshrined a holistic and cosmic vision of the universe in which each and every element, including man and his environment, strove to nurture and prosper in balance and harmony. Environment Education is not totally a new concept to the Indians. The modern global issues of preservation, protection and development of land, vegetation, animals and forest etc., for environmental concerns had been the source of ancient Indian writers’ worry long ago. That is why appropriate use of resources and administrative control to restrain over exploitation, constitute the prime paradigm of environmental protection and all these are found in this literature.
