Higher Education in Uttarakhand: Problems and Prospects of The Government Degree Colleges

Higher education plays the role of leadership in society. Education is a catalyst of social change and the successful spread of education in a society is the foundation of success in countries that are latecomers to development. In the road to development, primary education is absolutely essential because it creates the base. But higher education is just as important, as it provides the cutting edge. Higher Education provides people with an opportunity to reflect on the critical, social, economic, cultural, moral and spiritual issues facing humanity. It contributes to national development through dissemination of specialized knowledge and skills. It is therefore a crucial factor for survival. In the present paper an attempt has been made to assess the problems and prospects of Higher Education in Uttarakhand State with special reference to Government degree colleges located in the rural areas.
