Assistant Professor,
Philosophy of language, one of the branches of philosophy, is the study of relation of language, thought and reality. It has been the central area of study since the 19th century in western philosophy, while in India it is a matter of inquiry since the beginning of the Indian knowledge tradition. The Rigvedic Vak sukta is the first place where the philosophy of language has been examined. The tantric stream is another source for the study of the same problem. Kashmir Śaiva school, the monistic branch of Tantra, presents the constructive nature of language. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to recognise the contribution of Kashmir Śaiva in the field of philosophy of language, which accepts that language is a constructive as well as a cognitive principle.
