Abstract

The study aimed at developing a situation judgment test (SJT) for assessment of pre-requisite qualities for commando duties in security forces. For comprehensive understanding of the specific duties, job analysis was conducted by taking data from 285 commandos and training instructors serving in various security forces, on the basis of which 10 target qualities were identified and operationalized. A 70 item SJT was constructed and preliminarily tried out on a sample of 500 soldiers who were eligible for the commando duties but were not trained for the same. Final tryout was conducted on 500 soldiers. Factor analysis confirmed emergence of 10 quality domains. Internal consistency was found to be.78. As an index of criterion validity, profiles of 100 participants in final tryout correlated to the extent of.46 on an average, when matched with those of trained commandos.
