Abstract

Facebook use is a growing trend among every segment of the population. There are many positive aspects of facebook use, such as increased information sharing, communication, business opportunities, and education. However, excessive facebook usage has been shown to have a number of deleterious effects on individuals, families, and relationships. This study has demonstrated the fact that extended facebook usage was associated with personality traits, and life satisfaction among college students, aged between 18 to 22 years. Moreover, a difference was also found between male and female facebook users using t-test. The findings from this study can be used to further develop screening instruments, inform clinical practice and improve treatment guidelines so that individuals with excessive facebook use can be identified and treated.
