Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the convergent relationship between employee engagement and goal setting theory along with its effect on organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. It is hypothesized that goal setting and employee engagement are highly correlated and together they result in higher organizational performance i.e. organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior. Data was collected from a sample of 143 employees working in Bank (90) and Railways (53). The average age of the respondents was 42 and 20 percent were female. The survey method was used to collect data and various questionnaires were adapted. Results indicated that goal setting is positively correlated with employee and together they increased higher organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior.

The paper provides empirical support in engagement literature and relation of goal setting with engagement.
