Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the differential effects, if any, of perceived favourableness of organizational climate on motivation among employees. Three hundred college teachers randomly selected from Narsinghpur (M. P) participated in the study. Their age ranged from 25 years to 62 years. They were administered the Organizational Climate Scale (Singh and Singh, 2011) and Employee Motivation Schedule (Srivastava, 1995). Reliability and validity of the scale are high. They were assigned to either of the three groups based on their score on the Organizational Climate Scale-high, moderate and low favourable climate, and the scores of three groups on the scale of Employee Motivation schedule were subjected to descriptive and inferential statistics. It was found that three groups of participants differed significantly in their strength of global employee motivation. The significant differences were also observed on all but one dimension of employee motivation (need for monitory gains). Results suggest that perceived favourableness of the organizational climate is an important determinant of employee motivation and the management should give due priority to it. The results are thoroughly discussed and interpreted and the proposed hypotheses are accepted. The limitations of the study are underlined and suggestions for future researches are also given.
