Abstract

This paper intended to examine the effect of parental control (psychological control and behavioral restriction) on adolescents ’level of communication and trust with their parents. A total of 300 participants (150 males and 150 females) of age range 14–19 years were randomly selected from various schools of Patiala, Punjab for this study. Scales of Adolescents ’perception of parental behavior questionnaire, Trust and Revised family communication pattern were administered to the participants in small groups. Result indicated that adolescents who perceived higher level of behavioral restrictions had less communication with and poor trust in parents. Psychological control was linked to poor predictability of parental behavior and affected socio and concept communication in different ways. Gender differences in this respect are also discussed in the paper.
