The purpose of this article is to shed light on the various issues related to employees counseling in the work place as a way of maximizing human potential in the organization. Over the years there has been a growing concern regarding the needs of an employee as an individual. Consequently, many organizations have recognized the necessity of guiding and helping their employees to solve their problems, pertaining to both personal life and professional careers. This paradigm shift was occurred due to the fact that many a time's organizations suffer losses as their employees do not give their best due to their personal problems. The major objective of this review is to focus on some major issues related to the workplace, when counseling is required for employees. Further this review focuses on the benefits of employee counseling, approaches of counseling, impact of employee counseling on employees personal and organizational related outcomes. Finally, this paper concludes with a discussion of how emerging research on the employee counseling can be used to build a more productive organization. The authors have also discussed the status of employee counseling in India and also shed light on the reasons why counseling is not frequently used in Indian organizations.
