Influence of Personality, Anger and Flow on Gaming Addiction in Under graduate Male College Students

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relation of Personality, Anger and Flow on the phenomenon of Gaming Addiction among undergraduate college students in Chennai. It was hypothesized that personality and flow have significant relationships with gaming addiction but anger was hypothesized to have no relationship with Gaming Addiction. Subsequent Subhypotheses were formed based on the dimensional nature of the variables. Convenience sampling was used to collect data a sample and 103 participants. Eysenck's Personality questionnaire-(EPQ-R) was used to measure Psychoticism and Impulsivity and Extraversion and Intraversion, State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-C/A) was used to measure Anger Expression-In, Anger Expression-out and Anger control, Flow State Scale was used to measure the various dimensions of Flow state and gaming Addiction inventory for Adults was used to measure gaming addiction. The data was subjected to correlational and regression analysis. It was found that the dimensions of Personality, Anger and Flow all had significant relationships with gaming addiction and its dimensions and showed that dimensions of Personality, Anger and flow were able to predict gaming addiction upto 22% following a regression analysis.
