Abstract

The present study was designed to determine the influence of family and friends on academic stress among adolescents. Sample of the study comprised of 207 students of Kendriya Vidyalaya from Class 10 to 12 (Boys = 128; Girls 79). Data collection involved using Scale for Academic Stress (SAAS) Peer Pressure Scale (PPS) by and Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ). The correlation was used to find out the relationship between Academic Stress, Parental and Peer influence. Obtained data were analysed with the help of multiple regression. Results showed that peer pressure, authoritative parenting style to be the significant predictor of academic stress. Parents must arrive at a consensus and one of them to choose to authoritative parent, being responsive to the emotional needs of the adolescents which will aid the adolescents to distress. Adolescents must be encouraged to build positive peer relationship which will mutually help them sail through the stressful academic pressure and competition.
