Intelligence is a very popular term in psychology and also in other disciplines as it influences the behaviour of human beings in all the spheres of life. The intelligence related debates led to development of different theories and models of intelligence. The Guilford's theory of intelligence is one of the popular models. Structure of intellect (SI), also known as Structure of intelligence (SOI), model of intelligence was propounded by J.P. Guilford (1955). His theory is based on multiple intelligence model and happens to be one of the most popular and discussed theories of intelligence. It assumes that there are three fundamental dimensions of intelligence, namely contents, operations and products. In the initial stage it assumed 120 intellectual abilities, later expanded to 150 components and again expanded to 180 components in the structure of intelligence. SOI approach was used by him as a tool for Air Force pilots to facilitate them to succeed in their job performance. This paper deals with these concepts and also the usefulness of SOI. The present status of SOI is also elucidated in this paper.
