Abstract

The profession of education and the increasing demands it places on the teachers, have had a negative impact on the overall mental health of teachers especially in the current scenario of COVID-19. There is increased stress, burnout, and an excessive demand to become tech-savvy to survive in their job in the pressing times of the pandemic. This has led educators to think about the mental health well-being of teachers by looking at factors that may assist in buffering the effects of an adverse occupational environment. In view of the above, the present research used a correlational design to examine the relationships between emotional intelligence, quality of life, and experiences of burnout. Strong negative associations were observed between TEI and burnout as well as between Perceived QOL and burnout. A positive relationship was found between Perceived QOL and TEI. These findings indicate that it may be of benefit to consider directing professional development resources toward increasing emotional intelligence.
