This study was conducted to examine the differential effects of social stratification measured in terms of socio-economic conditions (SES) on the motivational orientation (social motives) among adolescent. The social motive measured in this study included achievement, power, affiliation and approval. The sample comprised 500 randomly selected male and female adolescent students from some of the Intermediate colleges of Jaunpur (U. P.). Their age ranged from 16 to 18 years. The SES Scale and Social Needs scale were administered on the participants. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. It was found that the social stratification measured in terms of SES of adolescent exerted significantly differential effects on only one social motive (Affiliation) on adolescent students. The results obtained in the study are thoroughly discussed and interpreted. Beside it, limitation and suggestions for future researches are also underlined.
