The stepped leader and return stroke are known to emit the radiation in LF to VHF and microwave region (Cooray, 1986; Pathak, 1994). A return stroke along with its image in the earth (as a finitely conducting surface) constitute a variable dipole giving out electromagnetic radiations in VLF range (Pathak. et al.1982; Pathak and Hazarika, 1985). In present paper the magnitude of electromagnetic radiation in LF-VHF range during return stroke have been calculated and compared with the available observed radiation (Weidman and Krider, 1986) in HF-VHF range and found in good agreement. For this the electric field radiated by a corona streamer is integrated theoretically throughout the return stroke channel.
