Numerous attempts have been made to reduce friction coefficients and wear rates of lubricants by enhancing their tribological properties. One of the methods used to change the properties is by adding nanoparicles to the lubricants. The addition of nanoparticles on commercially available lubricant extensively builds the viscosity of lubricants, accordingly being an intriguing resolution for enhancing the load carrying capacity of hydrodynamic bearing. This paper presents a state-of-the-art review on effect of nanoparticles based lubricants on static thermal behaviour of journal bearings. It provides a wide and good reference for researchers to be utilized. Finally, this communication states the further research directions for lubricant industry by utilizing nanoparticles to in cease efficiency and effectiveness.
