Abstract

Tourism is an important part of Cultural heritage depicting pride of the country, impacting its economy and serves as an important source of welfare. Also, our prime minister, who has launched Digital India initiative under which he plans to digitize the information that is now only available as paper work or human resources. This scheme will majorly impact the tourism industry as in order to guide tourists, there exist many tour guide schemes wherein tourists need to visualize what the guide wants to convey about the ancient period or read the information of the monument. There is also no guarantee that the information provided to him is from authenticated sources. By considering the limitations of above methods, we are proposing a real time application based on monument recognition, which will give tourists an interactive experience by superimposing an informative video, text and image onto the captured view of the monument. The main objective of the system is monument recognition with lowest rate of miss-classification and provides information of the same. Monument Recognition includes feature extraction process by applying SURF (Speed Up Robust Features) algorithm and SVM (Support Vector Machine) for classification. The system will provide information in 2 languages namely English and Hindi in order to address national as well as international tourist. This system can be applicable to various industries such as educational, entertainment industries, medical etc.
