Tephrosiapurpurea (Linn.) Pers., a popular Indian medicinal plant, has long been used commonly in Ayurvedicand unani system of medicine. In the present review, an attempt has been made to explore a literature survey on its traditional uses, established phytochemical studies and pharmacological properties. The whole plant as well as specific parts such as roots, leaves, seeds and bark have been widely used and shows the different pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective,anti-ulcer,anti-epileptic,antibiotic,anticarcinogenic, antilipidperoxidative, wound healing,antidiabetic, antioxidant etc.
