Abstract

Cancer incidentally, is the biggest killer in India, after heart disease and it is estimated that there are 1.5 -2 million cases at any given point in time.

To document the diagnostic accuracy of fine needle aspiration and imprint cytodiagnosis in breast lumps.

Nineteen patients attending Surgical O.P.D. of a tertiary hospital were included in the study.

Expressed in simple terms of proportion.

84.21 and 94.73 percent were the accuracy rate of FNAC and Imprint cytodiagnosis respectively. There were 10.52 and 5.26 percent false negative and 5.2 and zero percent false positive rates were recorded through FNAC and Imprint cytodiagnosis respectively.

It was concluded that F.N.A.C. and Imprint cytodiagnosis are valuable tools in the management of suspected malignancy and should be recommended as a routine practice.
