Abstract

Sansevieria roxburghiana Schult and Schult f. belonging to the family Asparagaceae commonly known as Indian bowstring hemp distributed in India, Indonesia, South Africa and Sri Lanka. The marker standardization of rhizomes of Sansevieria roxburghiana has not been carried out yet. Therefore the present study deals with the chemical characterization of rhizome of Sansevieria roxbughiana using HPTLC fingerprinting method with marker compounds. Camag HPTLC instrument with winCATS software was used to analyze the sample by HPTLC fingerprinting in suitable solvent system. The ethyl acetate fraction of methanol extract of rhizomes of Sansevieria roxburghiana showed the presence of rhein and diosgenin.
