Antimicrobial Activity of Ailanthus triphysa (dennst.) Alston against some selected Pathogenic Bacteria
Abstract
A study on the antimicrobial effect of Ailanthus triphysa was carried out against bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes and Escherichia coli by adopting broth dilution method. Ethanolic extract of the drug at a concentration of 125 μg/ml showed higher level of inhibitory activity on P. aeruginosa (OD-0.250±0.011). At the same time, a concentration of 500 μg/ml exhibited remarkable activity against S.aureus (0.254±0.006). Least effect was on E.coli and S. pyogenes (0.343±0.011 & 0.675±0.026). Hence, A.triphysa can be used as an effective antibacterial drug against S. aureus and P.aeruginosa.
