The aim of this survey is to assess the awareness about green tea's benefits and side effects for general health.
Pre tested interview administered questionnaire was distributed among 200 study subjects of age group 18–25 in chennai. The questionnaire consisted of 13 question regarding the benefits, side effects and consumption quantity.
In this study 87% of participants were aware of green tea among which 51% consumed it on daily basis. 48% people came across green tea via advertisements. The survey revealed that 42% were aware of it health benefitsand consumed it. Majority of people thought green tea as a strategy to lose weight. 11% of them were unaware pregnant and breast feeding women should not be consumed more than 5cups/day. A significant number of participants were aware of its contradictions.
Among the general public there is good awareness on health benefits but not about dosage and side effects. People are unaware of the quantity of green tea they can consume and the over dose effects on human body. Awareness on pregnant women consumption is also poor. Therefore it has become important to educate people on quantity to be consumed and contraindication.
