Endodontic infection is complex owing to its polymicrobial nature, consisting of gram positive, gram negative, and facultative anaerobes. Therefore, the causative microorganism cannot be definitely identified, and most commonly broad spectrum antibiotics are prescribed on a presumptive basis. Irrational and overuse of antibiotics results in the emergence of antibiotic resistance and also increases the risks of hypersensitivity reactions, like anaphylaxis. The purpose of this guidelines is to concise and provide an evidence based knowledge on antibiotic prescription and their usage in endodontic.
