Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate the wound healing potential of the extract of dried leaves of Psidium guajava in albino wistar rats.

Aerial parts of Psidium guajava L. was collected, dried and extracted (maceration) using ethanol. Preliminary qualitative phytochemical screening was carried out. In-vivo models like excision, incision and dead space wound were employed in the study.

Accelerated healing process, increase in the tensile strength and increase in the wet tissue weight as well as dry tissue weight were observed in the extract treated groups in excision, incision and dead space wound model respectively. Dose dependent and significant (p<0.05) wound healing activity in in-vivo study were obtained.

The results revealed promising wound healing potential of the plant Psidium guajava, compared to silver sulfadiazine used as the reference standard
