In the physiological and biochemical, physiological processes of the living system the free radicals (or reactive oxygen species-ROS) are generated. These ROS/free radicals are scavenged by certain chemical substances called antioxidants and thus help to treat as well as prevent the occurrence of several diseases. Several medicinal plants and their active constituents have the property to protect the antioxidant enzyme systems when treated to the living systems. In the present study, one such isolated compound, camalexin was selected and being studies to evaluate its neuroprotective role in Parkinson's disease.
