The aim of the present work was to evaluate the quantitative estimation of secondary metabolites such as phenol and flavonoids in different extracts of Apium leptophyllum Pers and identification of bioactive compounds by GC-MS analysis.
Determination of phenol and flavonoids in aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Apium leptophyllum Pers by using UV-Visible spectrophotometric quantitative method and the ethanolic extracts of plant active compounds were identified by GC-MS analysis.
The total phenolic content in aqueous and ethanol extract of Apium leptophyllum Pers were found to be 57.7±0.32 mg and 60.3± 0.87 mg of Gallic acid equivalents/100g of dry mass respectively, whereas the total flavonoid content of aqueous and ethanol extract was found to be 27.4± 0.76 mg and 39.8± 0.91mg Quercetin equivalents/100 g of dry mass. Thymol compound was highly found in the ethanolic extract of the plant. It was the richest source of ethanolic extract reflected in highest peak in GC-MS Chromatogram based on the percentage of peak area and compounds were identified based on Retention Time (RT Value)
The ethanolic extract has high content of phenol and flavonoids when compared to aqueous extract of Apium leptophyllum Pers and also evaluated the essential bioactive compounds have found in ethanolic extract of the plant by GC-MS analysis.
