Formulation and development of any dosage form pre-requisites many process including preformulation study that focuses on physicochemical characterization of the drug candidate to screen its performance in the developing the dosage form. Synthetic available actives have adverse effects on skin due to which the natural resources are explored to treat multiple dermal disorders. Essential oil of clove is one of the natural active used to treat various skin infections. The physicochemical characterization revealed clove oil was pale yellow liquid with strong aromatic odour and was denser than water. The hydrogenation study suggested that clove oil was not rancid. Assay of clove was performed using gas chromatography using eugenol as standard and eugenol content was found to be 84.63%±0.03%.The antimicrobial study performed, revealed the oil possess antifungal property against
