The objective of the study is to monitor the antibacterial activity of Solanum elaeagnifolium Cav. against some selected human pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella oxytoca, Bacillus cereus, Serratia macescens, Klebsiella pneumonia, Enterobacter amnigenus, Staphylococcus lentus, Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Brevibacterium paucivorans. The antibacterial assay is done by using various organic solvents like Ethanol, Acetone, Chloroform, Ethyl acetate and Petroleum ether leaf and stem extracts of Solanum elaeagnifolium by disc diffusion method. Here the chloramphenicol is used as a positive control for evaluating the results get from the plant extracts. Therefore, the results obtained from the present study indicate that the Ethanol stem extracts exhibited the highest inhibitory effect against all selected human pathogenic bacteria meanwhile the ethanol leaf extract also showed the same result as in stem extract except Enterobacter amnigenus and Escherichia coli. Followed by ethanol the ethyl acetate showed the highest inhibitory zones against the most of the test bacteria. Whereas the acetone and chloroform leaf and stem extracts exhibit moderate inhibitory zones against some of the selected pathogenic bacteria. Both petroleum ether leaf and stem extracts have not an inhibitory effect against all the test bacteria. So, this present investigation is to concluding the leaf extracts have more significant results than the stem extracts of the experimental plant.
