Hypertension is strongly associated with insulin resistance (IR) in Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG-G index) is an effective and new marker to verify IR.
To evaluate the association of TyG-G index with blood pressure categories and progression of hypertension stages and phenotypes in T2DM.
The study was conducted on 98 T2DM patients between November 2020 and December 2021. Patients were classified into five categories according to hypertension stages and phenotypes to evaluate the TyG-G index. Lipid, obesity, and glycemic indicators were evaluated.
Elevated TyG-G index found in patients with hypertension; SBP and DBP phenotypes, P =0.001. 50% of patients were hypertensive-stage 2 and significantly associated with elevated TyG-G index.
TyG-G index of cutoff (8.8) is a non-IR marker with high sensitivity (71%) and specificity (63%) for blood pressure progression (stages, phenotypes) independently of age, sex, lipid, obesity, and glycemic indicators.
