Abstract

Ortho aminobenzyl alcohol was oxidised by potassium persulphate [K2S2O8] in an acetone-water medium in a process that is catalysed by Ag (I). The principal reaction product of this reaction is ortho-aminobenzaldehyde. A novel and straightforward kinetic spectrophotometric approach was developed for the microgram determination of ortho-aminobenzyl alcohol [OABAlc] in the range of 49.26-209.36 μg/mL based on the best fit circumstances in terms of pH, dielectric constant, temperature, etc. presented in the current paper is a way for doing this. The correlation coefficient (r) for OABAlc was found to be in the range of 0.988 to 0.999 indicating a high level of precision in the data analysis and remarkably good data correlation. As a result, the procedures outlined above are ideally suited for determining OABAlc in micrograms.
