The aim of our paper to found the role of the anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) before and after laparoscopic excision of benign ovarian tumors.
This was a prospective study performed at a tertiary medical center. We included a number of sixty-five patients, aged 18 to 44 years old, to perform laparoscopic cystectomy on patients with benign ovarian tumors after ultrasound evaluation and histopathological confirmation. We measured of this study were to study the change in the level of the AMH after excision of benign ovarian tumors and the effect of age, cyst size, operation time, and histopathological subtype on the percent of change in the AMH level.
We detected a significant reduction in the AMH level after ovarian cystectomy. According to our analysis, there was a group variation based on the histopathological type of the mass but not according to age, cyst size, laterality, or operation time. A direct relationship was seen between the pre-operative AMH level and its level post-operatively, as well as after three months of follow-up.
Our study shows a significant reduction in the level of the AMH after laparoscopic surgery to benign ovarian masses. In order to study the change in the level of the AMH after benign ovarian tumor excision, future studies should include more patients for a lengthy follow-up period.
