Hypertension is one of the most common non communicable disease that affects the world’s population leading to Cardio vascular disease. Despite, so many modern drugs prevalent in the market, due to their side effects people are in search for herbal remedies. Siddha medicine, an ancient Tamil medical system was rich in herbal, metal and mineral origin drugs for prevention and the treatment of various disorders encompassing non communicable diseases. Kurudhiazhal choornam, a Siddha herbal proprietary formulation was prescribed widely for systemic hypertension in Siddha wings of Government sector, Tamil Nadu for many years. The formulation was effective for the management of hypertension but its mechanism in reducing the blood pressure was not explored. As an initiative, a preliminary molecular docking study through computational analysis was done with Auto Dock tool to find its action in reducing the blood pressure.
The phytoconstituents present in each ingredient of Kurudhiazhal choornam were identified and retrieved through literature survey. The potential action of Kurudhiazhal choornam against Hypertension was compared with allopathy standard drug captopril for inhibitory action of Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).
Study results showed, phytoconstituents present in the individual ingredients of the formulation Kurudhiazhal choornam has effective binding action against ACE receptor target.
The Siddha formulation Kurudhiazhal choornam has inherent action against hypertension by binding with ACE receptor target enzyme was concluded by the present study.
