Hepatoprotective, Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Oxidant Activity of Polyherbal Formulation (Aeroliv) in rats

Abstract

To evaluate the Hepatoprotective, Anti-oxidant and Anti-inflammatory activities of polyherbal formulation (Aeroliv) in rats. In this model of adult (150-200 gms) five sets of Sprague-Dawley rats, one for each sex, were split equally. Groups 3, 4, and 5 were concurrently treated with standard extract at 250 and 500 mg/kg, in that order, while Groups 1 and 2 functioned as untreated and model controls, respectively. Using inhaled diether anaesthesia, blood samples for biochemical markers were taken on the previous day and the paw oedema by plethysmometer. Carbon tetrachloride increases the liver biomarkers like ALT, AST, Total protein in blood. Coadministration of Polyherbal formulation with CCl4 causes decreases in the levels of the biomarkers. Decrease in the paw edema induced by carrageenan and increases in the anti-oxidant activity. It was noted that rats treated with Aeroliv's aqueous extract exhibited hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. This could ultimately result in the creation of a brand-new drug to treat liver conditions like cirrhosis.
