Formulation and validation of tinea pedis cream using extract of Madhuca indica, Curcuma longa and Shorea robusta

Abstract

One important component of plant resistance to disease has been shown to be the existence of antifungal compounds in plant tissues. Superficial mycoses are fungal infections that impact the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. The toe webs of patients affected by Tinea pedis are infected with either Trichophyton species or Epidermophyton floccosum. Indians are known to have tinea pedis, especially housemaids, farmers, and athletes. Along the spreading margin, erythema, edema, and inflammation are typically present. All of the medications utilised are their origin in nature and readily available in India, thus chosen to make the cream from their extracts. Cream was chosen as the formulation for incorporating herbal medications due of its exquisite look, patient acceptance, simple spreadability, and convenience of administration. Several cream base formulations were tested for medication inclusion, and one was chosen. Cream's rheological characteristics demonstrated pseudoplastic flow and shear thinning properties. Cream stability studies proves it is stable. Validation is performed by assessing quantifiable qualities. The current study attempted to develop and evaluate a cream used to treat tinea pedis utilising extracts of Curcuma longa, Shorea robusta, and Madhuca indica. The results demonstrate the produced cream is successful in treating tinea pedis.
