The activity of phytochemical content in “TELARI” as functional drink in reducing glycaemia levels in the elderly

Abstract

TELARI drink is a healthy functional drink combining telang flower and strawberry leaf formulations containing phytochemicals that may act as antidiabetics, reducing the risk of diabetes mellitus in the elderly. This study aimed to analyse the content of phytochemicals and the effect on blood sugar reduction in elderly people after consumption of TELARI. This study is a laboratory experiment testing antioxidant levels and their effects on 60 elderly people. The elderly people consumed 100 ml of TELARI for one week. Blood glucose Nuchter levels were tested and the results were analysed using the Wilcoxon test with a 95% CI. Phytochemicals were determined by 18-16-2/MU/SMM-SIG (LCMS/MS) QTOF method, and BSN levels were determined by colourimetry and immunoturbidimetry using a Symex BX-3010 automated analyser. The results showed that the phytochemicals contained were kaempferol-3-O-(2G-α-L-rhamnosyl)-rutinoside, maltol, quercetin-3-O-(2G-α-L-rhamnosyl)-rutinoside and ellagic acid. The results of the Wilcoxon test for all parameters with a p-value < 0.05 indicate a difference with with a reduced rate of 7 mg/dL (8,5%) for Non-DM Patients 20,21 mg/dL (12%) for DM Patients. TELARI Drink may be classified as a functional health drink that may help regulate blood sugar levels in the elderly both in DM and non-DM patients.
