Ameliorative effect of Sodium Cromoglycate in Isoniazid-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Mice

Abstract

The Present study has been designed to evaluate the hepatoprotective potential of Sodium Cromoglycate (SCG) in INH hepatotoxic mice. Isoniazid (INH) (300mg/kg/day; orally) is administered to the mice orally for a period of 7 days, that has been reported to be a model of hepatotoxicity. Hepatotoxicity was assessed by measuring serum liver enzymes levels on 1st, 4th and 7th day. Moreover, the oxidative stress was assessed by estimating TBARS and CAT. In addition to this inflammatory mediator TNF-α level was estimated on 8th day. Further, the integrity of the liver tissue and mast cell degranulation was estimated by histopathological studies. Moreover, Liver index and comparison of hepatoprotective potential between SCG 50mg/kg, 100mg/kg and SIL 100mg/kg was also done. Treatment with SCG significantly restored the liver functioning by reducing the level of oxidative stress parameters, improving the level of biomarkers and attenuated mast cell degranulation.
