Abstract

A cutaneous yeast infection that affects the areas of the head that are on the scalp is called candidiasis. Candida albicans, a type of fungus yeast, is the causal agent of this fungal illness. This research study formulated a herbal oil (CACU oil) through extraction method and evaluation of the antimicrobial effect of crude Chamaecostus Cuspidatus leaf oil against candida based fungal infections and bacterial infections. Leaves of C. Cuspidatus was washed with Tween 20 for surface sterilization and washed thoroughly by double distilled water for three times. The clean plant leaves was dried at a shady place for a week. The dried leaves were ground into fine powder. 1 gm of leaves powder was mixed with 100ml Erlenmeyer flask and boiled at 80°C till the water become semi solid and use the crude extract for further studies. Preparation of Chamaecostus Cuspidatus (CACU oil) was done by stirring (150RPM) with paraffin and olive oils in equal concentrations for 5 min to obtain a homogenous transparent mixture and then aqueous extract of Chamaecostus Cuspidatus was added to the mixture at a concentration of 0.1% w/w. The CACU oil extract were screened for their anti-fungal activity against Candida albicans and antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter, Pseudomonas aeriginosa. Fluconazole was used as the standard drug in the entire test extracts studied in antifungal activity and ciprofloxacin for antibacterial studies. The results revealed that the CACU oil showed more significant activity against tested fungal and bacterial organisms. Thus CACU oil can be better product for antibacterial treatment and anti-fungal treatment against candida albicans scalp infections.
