This study focuses on developing and assessing miconazole-loaded hydrogels using various polymers, aiming to enhance their suitability for dermatological applications. Miconazole, known for its potent antifungal properties, was incorporated into hydrogel formulations due to their potential advantages in achieving sustained release and improved skin permeation. The polymers chosen for this study Carbopol 934, Carbapol 940 and guar gum were selected based on their abilities to gel, biocompatibility, and viscosity enhancement. The formulation process involved dispersing miconazole within polymer solutions, followed by the addition of appropriate additives to optimize the hydrogel rheological properties and drug release characteristics. The physical attributes, including appearance, texture, and homogeneity, were carefully evaluated for each formulation. Viscosity measurements were conducted using a suitable viscometer to ensure proper application and spreadability on the skin. In vitro drug release studies were performed to analyze how miconazole released from the hydrogel over time, mimicking physiological conditions using a dissolution apparatus. This allowed for a comparison of drug release kinetics across the different polymer formulations. Additional assessments included pH testing to confirm compatibility with skin pH and non-irritation testing to assess potential skin reactions. The results highlighted the significant impact of polymer selection on the physical properties, drug release profiles, and overall performance of the hydrogel formulations. Formulations containing carbopol 940 demonstrated favorable rheological properties and sustained drug release.
