Abstract

Chloroxylon swietenia has long been utilized in traditional medicine as an antibiotic, antifertility, analgesic, insecticidal, and antifeedant. The current study aims to assess the hepatoprotective activity of Chloroxylon swietenia leaf extract against carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. The Chloroxylonswietenia ethanolic extract used, its hepatoprotective activity was assessed through qualitative screening. hepatoprotective activity compared with standard hepatoprotective drug (liv 52 syrup). Rats treated with CCl4 and then given 250 mg/kg of Chloroxylonswietenia leaves ethanolic extract and fractions showed nearly normal architecture of their liver tissues, which suggests that the extract and fractions have hepatoprotective properties. This result was comparable to that of using a popular Liv 52 syrup. Rats' livers tissue to be protected by an ethanolic extract of Chloroxylonswietenia leaves. During the 48-hour trial period, the rats showed no signs of toxicity or death.
