Abstract

Pogostemom cablin Benth is a flowering plants and commonly known as member of the Lamiaceae family. Pogostemom cablin Benth is plant essential oils as source of raw material for the essential-oil industry that are useful for several therapeutics treatment such as pharmaceutical, food industries, and cosmetics. In this study, herbal body lotion have been formulated using a light fraction of patchouli oil as an active ingredient. The aim of this study was to formulate and evaluate of antioxidant and antiaging activity of body lotion containing light fraction of patchouli oil. The cycling assay method showed that the spread ability; pH; homogeneity; odor, and colour of the lotions were suitable for herbal body lotion. The contaminations assay showed the formulated lotion showed did not contain any heavy metals and microbial contaminations. The antioxidant assay by DPPH method showed that Formula 1 (F1) showed a good antioxidant activity with the IC50 value of 92.50 ppm. Meanwhile, the antiaging activity by MTT assay method showed that Formula 1 (F1) showed low cytotoxic activity against NIH3T3 fibroblast normal cells. Overall, the formulated body lotions showed excellent antioxidant and antiaging activities.
