It is relevant to expand the raw material base for obtaining phytopreparations at the expense of food plants known for the absence of toxic effects, promising for the development of effective and safe drugs because, on the one hand, contain biologically active substances (BAS) with therapeutic effect on the human body, and, on the other hand, are an easily renewable resource for which there are known methods of cultivation. It is promising to use plant stimulants that do not have a negative impact on the human body and the environment to increase phytomass and accumulation of BAS of cultivated medicinal and food plants.

The varietal characteristics of garden cress in terms of flavonoids, tannins and ascorbic acid accumulation were studied; the influence of the stimulant isolated from Bohemian knotweed on antioxidant activity and accumulation of secondary metabolites (flavonoids, tannins and ascorbic acid) in garden cress was evaluated. The data on the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of potentially medicinal plant garden cress grown on hydroponics and on soil have been expanded, the obtained data can be used in the development of regulatory documentation for garden cress herb when introducing it into medical practice.
garden cress herb has a sufficiently high antioxidant activity. Very close, but not equal, values of antioxidant activity in terms of flavonoids indicate the influence of other antioxidants not considered in this experiment (intervals do not overlap). The content of tannins in garden cress herb was up to 0.47%, ascorbic acid - up to 0.08%, flavonoids in terms of rutin - up to 1.22%. The positive effect of the stimulant isolated from leaves of Bohemian knotweed on morphometric characteristics of garden cress herb regardless of the method of cultivation and on the accumulation of BAS during cultivation on soil was shown.
