Traditional Siddha medicine is a useful therapeutic option for treating non-communicable diseases (NCDs). One distinctive aspect of the Siddha medical system is its utilization of various metals, minerals, padanam, ubarasam, and karasaram to treat both acute and chronic illnesses.
Abragam (Mica or Biotite) was the topic of a thorough literature research that was conducted using the Siddha pharmacopoeias as well as electronic databases include Pub Med, Google Scholar, and Science.
Based on review of the literature and scientific research on Abragam reveals that studies were done on its Physiochemical character, Standardization and Toxicity.
Purification processes of abragam have a specific impact on structural deformation, and heating and quenching can produce nanoparticles. When making medicines with Abragam in traditional medicine undergoes chemical and structural changes to the Abragam. In accordance to the literature and scientific review, Abragam is used in the Siddha system to treat a variety of ailments. It also possesses anti-diabetic properties; it has been utilized to treat Madhumegam (Diabetes Mellitus) from ancient times. In order to completely prove that medicines based on Abragam are safe and free of harmful and long-term adverse effects, further scientific studies are needed.
