Efficacy and Economics of Plant Based Insecticides Useful In Pest Control of Potato

There is global awareness, about the chemical health hazards and therefore tendency to use minimal chemical pesticides or its substitution by natural pesticides derived from plants. Natural pesticides control insect pests without inducing resistance in insect pests and do not leaving residual toxicity.

Presently used synthetic insecticides based on the chemical knowledge are proving either useless on efficacy ground or dangerous to the human being and the domestic animals. They having residual toxicity even at very low levels on the metabolic pool of human and animals and with the effects they pose a problem of cumulative toxicity also. The free, frequent and indiscriminate use of these chemicals creates not only resistance problems but also they are costly and not affordable by the farmers. Hence there is high need to develop new, safe, cheap and easily available insecticide from the plant sources available in our country.
