The present study was undertaken to screen the laxative and anthelmintic activity of Cassia alata flowers. The laxative activity was performed at a dose of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg according to Cappaso et al in albino rats. Anthelmintic activity was evaluated separately on adult Indian earthworms, Pheritima posthuma by the method of Nargund. Agaragar and piperazine citrate were used a standard drugs for laxative and anthelmintic activity respectively. The flower extract was found to produce significant (p>0.05) and dose-dependent increase in fecal output showing laxative activity; the 200 mg/kg dose being more potent. The extract was also found to paralyze and cause death of worms; showing significant anthelmintic activity.
