Evaluation of Ethanolic Extract of Moringa Oleifera for Wound Healing, Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Activities on Rats

Abstract

The present study deals with evaluation of continuous heat extracted fraction of Moringa oleifera leaves for antioxidant, wound healing and anti-inflammatory activity in albino wistar rats. The antioxidant activity was carried out by conventional DPPH radical scavenging method, wound healing activity was performed by considering incision, excision, dead space wound model followed by histopathological studies and anti-inflammatory activity was carried out by using carageenan induced rat paw oedema method. The wounds treated with experimental extract shows faster wound closure (24–27 days) and epithelization as compared to wound under untreated group (more than 30 days). The different diluted extract shows antioxidant activity in range of 16.24% to 32.78%. The extract shows significant antiinflammatory activity as compared to standard reference drug ibuprofen. The result revealed that the anti-inflammatory activity possibly attribute to its free radical scavenging property.
