Abstract

A simple, sensitive, accurate and reproducible UV-Visible Spectrophotometric method for the determination of Zolpidem Tartrate drug in pharmaceutical preparation by the formation of Ion Association Complex with dye in acidic medium. The Zolpidem Tartrate drug solution is treated with TPOO (Tropaeoline OO) dye solution in presence of acidic medium (0.1M HCl). The resultant solution is extracted with chloroform, the formed ion association complex is present in greenish yellow color and it is extractable in chloroform layer. The absorbance of extractable ion association complex is measured at the wave length of maximum absorbance 410 nm. The drug calibration graph is constructed by plotting absorbance values against the different concentrations of drug solution at 410 nm. The Beer's law plot showed good agreement in the concentration range of 50 -250 μg/ml for Zolpidem Tartrate drug. There is no interference from the common pharmaceutical excipients.
